Many of our everyday foods should not be reheated and may not be safe for us to eat. There are many ways to reheat your food properly, some foods are even turn toxic if you reheat them improperly. Here are ten foods you shouldn’t reheat.
EGGS
Eggs are a rich source of protein but if you reheat your cooked eggs or a boiled egg it can make them turn toxic which can cause havoc in your digestive tract. Once your eggs are cooked make sure you eat them immediately but if you have left overs it is best to eat them cold. High protein foods contain a lot of nitrogen, if you reheat the nitrogen may get oxidised and could cause cancer.

RICE
Uncooked rice contains spores that get turned into bacteria even after you have cooked the rice the bacteria can still survive, when the cooked rice is left out at room temperature the bacteria can multiply and may produce toxins which can cause diarrhoea and vomiting also food poisoning.

PRAWNS
You can easily get food poisoning from reheating prawns the wrong way, if you cook prawns or a order a delicious prawn curry make sure you put your leftovers in the fridge within two hours and eat them within three days after they were first prepared. When you reheat them make sure you reheat with an internal temperature of at least 165F/74C and this will kill pathogens commonly found in shellfish.

POTATOES
Potatoes are a rich source of Vitamin B6, Potassium and Vitamin C and has many health benefits, if you reheat a potatoes it promotes growth of a rare bacteria called Botulism. The bacteria will not be killed by reheating the potatoes in the microwave and it may lead to food poising and nausea.

CHICKEN
It is perfectly fine to reheat chicken as long as you don’t reheat it again and again and when you do reheat it do not do it on a high temperature. Chicken is highly rich in proteins which can get impacted by reheating and could cause you digestive troubles.

VEGATBABLES
Vegetables with high amounts of nitrates like spinach, carrots, turnips, celery and other green leafy vegetables if you reheat them in the microwave they can turn toxic. The nitrates that are naturally in the vegetables can convert into carcinogens and this substance is capable of causing cancer in living tissue.

BEETROOT
Beetroots are just like vegetables which are also rich in nitrates, reheating them would turn the nitrates into nitrates that is carcinogenic to the body and could cause stomach aches.

MUSHROOMS
Once you have cooked and prepared mushrooms it is recommended to eat them straight away and shouldn’t be stored for next day use. Mushrooms have proteins and a generous amount of minerals and once you reheat them you can cause yourself havoc in your digestive system.

COLD PRESSED OIL
One of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acid is cold pressed oil like flaxseed oil, olive oil and canola oil. Omega-3 fat is very sensitive to temperature as it breaks and becomes rancid above 40 degree centigrade. Therefore never heat cold pressed oil before consumption.

PROCESSED MEAT
Processed meats often contain chemicals and preservatives that extend their shelf loves. Unfortunately microwaving them can make these worse for your health, if you reheat your processed meat you might be exposed to chemical changes such as oxidised cholesterol in the process and this has been linked to coronary heart disease.
