How To Make The Best Nachos

Prep Time: 10 Minutes, Cook Time: 15 Minutes, Serves: 6


For the spice mix you will need:

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp chilli powder
  • 1 Tsp salt
  • 1 Tsp garlic powder
  • 1 Tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 Tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 Tsp pepper
  • 1/2 Tsp oregano

For the nachos you will need:

  • 1 Tsp oil
  • 1 Pound of ground beef
  • 2 Cups refried beans
  • 1/4 Cup of water
  • 1 Large bag of tortilla chips
  • 4 Cups of grated cheese (1 cup extra for topping)
  • 1/4 Cup chopped spring onion or cilantro

Optional toppings you may want:

  • Sweetcorn
  • Jalapenos sliced
  • Sour cream
  • Chopped tomatoes
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Hot sauce
  • Black olives
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced onions


  1. To make the spice mix combine all the spice mix ingredient’s into a small bowl.
  2. In a medium sized saucepan heat the oil of your choice on a medium heat, once its warmed add your ground beef and season it with the spice mix you have in the small bowl. (Cook until the meat is browned around 9 minutes)
  3. Once your beef is cooked drain it with a colander.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350F or 175C.
  5. With your drained beef return it to the medium sized saucepan and add into the saucepan your refried beans and water. Heat the mixture until its all well combined and the beans are smooth. Now reduce your meat to a low heat.
  6. On a baking tray place you tortilla chips in a single layer and place them in the oven for 5 minutes on the middle shelf.
  7. Take your toasted tortilla chips out of the oven after the 5 minutes and top them with 2 cups of the shredded cheese and let it melt for one minute.
  8. Add your beef and bean mixture on top of the melted cheese and your spring onion or cilantro and you can now add the remanding shredded cheese on top and return the tray to the oven for 5 minutes until the cheese has fully melted.
  9. Once you took your nachos out of the oven you can now top them with any optional ingredients you want.
  10. Enjoy your delicious homemade nachos.
