How To Make Simple Delicious Homemade Eggnog

Prep time: 10 minutes, Cook time: 15 minutes, Serves: 5-6


  • 6 Large eggs
  • 3 Quarters of a cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 Cup heavy cream
  • 2 Cups whole milk
  • 1/2 Tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 Tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of cinnamon for topping
  • 1/2 Cup bourbon (optional)
  • 1/2 Cup rum (optional)


  1. Separate the eggs and place the egg yolks in a medium sized mixing bowl and add the sugar and whisk until light and creamy.
  2. In a medium sized saucepan on medium to high heat add the milk, cream and nutmeg and slowly heat until the mixture is steamy hot but not boiling.
  3. Slowly add the egg mixture into the milk mixture constantly whisking, cook the eggnog stirring with a wooden spoon until the mixture begins to thicken and coats the back of the spoon.
  4. Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in your vanilla extract.
  5. Strain the mixture through a strainer to remove any curdled bits, let the mixture cool for around one hour in a jug.
  6. Once its cooled stir in your alcohol if you have chosen this option.
  7. Sprinkle your cinnamon on top and enjoy!
