How To Make Delicious Homemade Fruit Cake

Prep time: 25 minutes, Cook time: 1 hour 45 minutes, Serves: 6 People/12 slices


  • 400g Mixed dried fruit
  • 125g Butter at room temperature
  • 4 Medium eggs
  • 4 Tbsp milk (60g)
  • 125g Soft brown sugar
  • 250g Self raising flour
  • 1 Tbsp mixed spice
  • 1 Tbsp grated orange zest
  • 1 Tbsp grated lemon zest
  • 1 Tbsp jam any flour (optional)
  • 100g Chocolate chips any kind (optional)
Dried Mixed Fruit


  1. Preheat the oven to 170C.
  2. Grease your cake tin with some butter.
  3. In a large mixing bowl add your butter, eggs, milk, sugar, flour, jam, spice, both zests and chocolate chips.
  4. Beat the mixture well until its all combined.
  5. Add your dried fruit into your mixture and mix by hand until the fruit is incorporated.
  6. Place the mixture into your greased cake tin.
  7. Place in the oven on the middle shelf for 1 hour and 25 minutes, test the cake mixture with a toothpick if it comes out dry its done, if it comes out wet place the cake back in the oven for a further 10-15 minutes until its cooked.
  8. Once the cake is cooked leave it out the oven for ten minutes then remove it from the cake tin to a wiring rack to cool.
